It was hard to say good-bye to the Three Sisters, but we went back to Bend to get some food, mosquito repellent, and check out the town.
On July 11th, we headed back into the mountain. This time we camped at Coldwater Cove Campground by Clear lake. The campground doesn’t have hook up, but camp sites are spacious with a lot of privacy. We were there on a weekend, so there were a lot of people on the lake. We saw a mall buss load of seniors from Eugene/Sweet Home area kayaking from the boat ramp near our campsite. We did the 5.4 mile loop trail around the lake, and enjoyed, “clear” and blue water, old forest, and more lava fields. We rented a boat at clear lake resort, and floated on the lake for several hours.
- Barrow’s Goldeneye (Female? I didn’t see any male in their breeding plumage.)

McKenzie River Trail
So much water!
I’ve never seen a pool, lake or pond this clear. You can see every little stone at the bottom of the lake. I loved the moss and moisture on the trail, too.
